LA Division Events


The LA Division strives to convene top quality educational and networking events that bring together leaders from Southern California's political, private sector and academic communities.

March 2012 Division Meeting

Join a discussion on legislative issues, how cities can be effective advocates for local government concerns and how the 2012 legislative session will impact your city. Led by Anthony Gonsalves, widely recognized as one of Sacramento's longest tenured, most successful lobbyists, the LA Division will examine the critical issues and illustrate how city officials can make an impact.

2011 Installation Dinner

A crowd of nearly 200 joined the Los Angeles Division for its 2011 Borad of Directors Installation Dinner the evening of August 4. Held at the impressive Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, the Installation Ceremony honored outgoing President Angel Carrillo and the 2010-11 Board of Driectors, and welcomed new President Bruce Barrows of the City of Cerritos.

2011 City Economic Development Conference

Cities undoubtedly play an important role in shaping economic development and the question of how local governments can lead in creating fiscally vibrant communities has never been more relevant in light of the lagging national recovery. The LA Division recently tackled this issue during its 2011 City Economic Development Conference in Long Beach on August 24th, and nearly 100 attendees benefited from the valuable input of leaders on various key topics. The Southern California region has taken quite a few hits in this struggling economy, as unemployment in L.A.

May Division Meeting Covers Infrastructure Needs

The LA Division was proud to welcome Richard Little, the Director of the Keston Institute for Public Finance and Infrastructure Policy at USC at its May 5 Division meeting. Little informed attendees that the nation is on the verge of a perfect storm in funding civil infrastructure.

Moving California Forward

Is the viability of the California Dream more elusive than ever or can we change the rules, improve results, and make the state work to the best of its ability?

Economic hardship breeds uncertainty and discerning the outlook of voters during such an unstable political environment is a valuable source of information when navigating the fickle moods of Californians. The Los Angeles Division was fortunate to have the expertise of John Fairbank and Matthew Klink on hand at its March 3rd meeting, thereby giving attendees a clearer picture of current public opinion and policy issues.

Reforming California: April 7 Division Meeting

The Division is pleased to welcome the head of California Forward, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to bring government closer to the people and move the state in the right direction - forward.

California Forward believes "empowered local communities are best equipped to solve their own problems, and there is a critical link between many of the problems that threaten our future and our state government, which has become ineffective, unresponsive, and unable to fix itself."

In recent years it may feel as though America’s star shines a little less brightly in light of inescapable factors such as the recession, costly wars, and high unemployment.  All of which has triggered inflamed rhetoric from both sides of the aisle that alarmingly warns of the imminent downfall of this country based on the latest cable news freak-out.
